LOCAL FOOD PANTRY MOVES TO NEW LOCATION

LOCAL FOOD PANTRY MOVES TO NEW LOCATION

Hampshire, IL - After a search that lasted more than a year, The Burlington Hampshire Area Food Pantry has found a new home at 220 Keyes Avenue, Unit A in Hampshire – a block east of State Street on the North Side of the railroad tracks. The move was made as an improvement to client services and to secure a long-term location.

On January 6th of this year, a group of volunteers consisting of members of Hampshire Lions Club, BSA Troops 22, 46 and 946, Breda Moving and our loyal food pantry volunteers, gathered to completely clear food, shelving, tables and chairs from our old location on 147 Mill Avenue. Everything was moved a few blocks to our new location on Keyes within two hours. The food pantry wants to acknowledge everyone that helped us with this undertaking – Thank You!

For over 25 years, the food pantry has served the communities of Hampshire, Burlington and Pingree Grove and any member of the local congregations regardless of residency. Food and monetary donations come into the pantry from local churches, families, local businesses, memorial donations, and other non-profit organizations.  Food is also purchased from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.   NIFB makes their deliveries on the second Friday of the ordering month, several times each year.  Residents in need can pick up food on the third Monday or on the Saturday following the third Monday each month. Currently, the food pantry assists between 25 and 30 families, equating to about 80-110 people, each month.

In cooperation with the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, the Burlington Hampshire Area Food Pantry will be hosting our official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 15th, 2024, at 10am. The public is welcome to attend.
